FYI another dealer 15 miles away was charging $300/tire plus $100 each for labor and my local honda dealer did not have the PAX machine even though the Michelin database said they did. Continental seems to get less less complaints and they are less expensive than the OEM Bridgestone EL42-RFT. Getting 20K miles out of the Bridgestone is not so bad as it has a relatively low rating on wear compared to others. There has been some talk about the Bridgestone having a new modified version, but it's unclear if that's actually true. Every rim has been damaged and I am trying to work a deal to have them take care of switching to a wheel and tire of my chasing along with a spare donught in the lazy susan well of the floor. I am not taking the odyssey off the lot until they have made it right by me. If they supply me with a 17" wheel and tire I have chosen I will let the matter drop. If they don't I will take photographs of the wheel damage done by them and retain an attorney. I am not going to put up with this insane monoply that Michelin and Honda have conspired in. This system is wrong and I will pursue it as far as humanly possible. The replacement wheel was priced to me at $400.00 each. If they don't take care of my request on Monday I will try to contact the media myself. Based on the information in these articles, it seems at least plausible that many RFT owners have unknowingly ran the tires under low pressure for an extended period. That would explain premature tire wear and failure for many, but not for all. Unlike conventional tires, RFT have stiff sidewalls that make a flat tire stay more round, hence harder to detect by eye. The low profile tires on BMW make it even harder to see bcs the space between the rim and the ground is small to begin with. Many of us are under the impression that TPMS is safeguard that replaces our eyeballs, but this is often not true. Drive the car. If possible, drive the car on highway. Listen the sounds ofwind and the engine. Listen if there is some uncommon sounds. Do you feel thecar very comfortable, smooth, stable? Make a sharp turn. Listen if there is someproblem with the C/V joint. Take your hands off the steering on a flat road. Isthe call pulling to one side? Push the brake to see if the car is pulling oneside when you push the brake. Negative camber with to much toe out wears the inside edge of the tire. Get the car aligned. TPMS tells you when to pull over and fix your flat or run it flat and replace it. If you reset your TPMS it wont be active for a while as it relearns strategy in which time the tire pressure could be going down. Plugs allow you to patch a nail hole along side the road. Rotate your tires every other oil change and you wont have the shoulder wear on the front tires and the cupping on the rear tires. Check if allthe buttons works well. An inline-6 will be much longer (and I believe taller) than any engine installed by Toyota and will never fit in as a rear-wheel drive engine. In order to use this engine, you would have to extend the front clip at least a foot to provide clearance. There is no way it will fit as a transverse front-wheel drive engine. There were all-wheel drive Camrys available, but none with a inline 6. I changed the o-ring on the distributor shaft. The dist cap gasket does need replacing, but not critical at this point...I want the oil to stop getting inside the distributor. There's a difference between an o-ring and a gasket. Sometimes you will get it by leaving. If you didn't get it by doing so, don'tbe disappointed. Then go to the second dealer. Using the same process but don'tleave so early this time. If you can not get the car, then go up another $ 500. During this time I developed some simple ground rules that I think take all the guess work out of using an auction as a viable means to getting a great deal on a used car. |
